PLAYS OF DEATH

This series of drawings was created in Mexico City; this is the first time they have been shown. Using black ink, this mostly monochromatic series was inspired by the Mexican celebratory tradition of the Calavera and the Day of the Dead. This work is a tribute to those rituals in which the profane and sacred converge in a collective celebration of commemoration, laughter, memory, prayer and 'bebetoria'. Critical commentary, satire and good humor are central to this series.

No one who wishes to visit and understand Mexico can escape from the enchantment and visceral hypnosis of the profound spirituality that connects the pre-hispanic past to our contemporary world.
