el salvador

My first public art experience was in 1970 when I along with the art group 'Uquxkah' created a monumental sculpture in a public plaza in San Salvador, the capital of my country of origin El Salvador. From 1971 to 1972 I was commissioned for my first individual monumental public art work titled 'Maternidad' for the central square of the city of Coatepeque. In 1975 I began work on a public artwork titled 'La Familia' which was projected to be installed at the entrance of the city of San Salvador, but unfortunately and because of the violent events of the civil war, the project was destroyed. From 1976 to 1978 I realized two commissioned artworks titled 'Obelisco' for the city of Tonacatepeque and 'Maternidad' for the city of Cojutepeque. I was also involved in other numerous projects, created for both the public and private sector. These experiences in the early phase of my artistic career were incredibly formative in the development of my vision of public art.

Thank you to the Salvadoran photographers Mario Juarez Dubon and Claudia Chita for the high definition photography.
